Gilchrist’s OT Game-Winner Lead Women’s Ice Hockey Past Vikings

SALEM, Mass. – The New England College women's ice hockey team won 2-1 in overtime at Salem State University on Saturday at Rockett Arena in Salem, Massachusetts, in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) action. It was the first conference win of the season for the Pilgrims, who keep their slim playoff hopes alive with six NEHC games remaining.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Salem State freshman forward Halle Greenleaf (Ipswich, Mass.) opened the scoring with a goal with just 47 seconds left in the first period, assisted by freshman forward Ginger Osgood (Saunderstown, R.I.) as the Vikings went into the first intermission leading 1-0.
  • After a scoreless second period, the 'Grims – still trailing by one – came out of the game storming in the third. junior forward Kate Devlin (Walpole, Mass.) found the back of the net for her third goal of the season to tie it up at 1-1, assisted by junior forward Olivia Lindberg (Stockholm, Sweden). With no more scoring in regulation, the game headed into overtime.
  • Just 1:01 into the overtime period, NEC leading-scorer junior forward Meadow Gilchrist (Stamford, Conn.) came through in the clutch, scoring her seventh goal of the season to win it for the Pilgrims, assisted by Lindberg and freshman defender Greta Grant (Brownfield, Maine).
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • NEC sophomore goaltender Lucy Armour (Falmouth, Mass.) picked up her first win of the season for the 'Grims, stopping 28 shots on the day.
  • Salem State freshman goaltender Delaney Cox (Spencer, Mass.) tallied 31 saves for the Vikings.
  • Shots on goal were 33-29 in favor of the Pilgrims.

  • NEC is back on the ice on Friday when they play host to Salve Regina University in a 6:00 p.m. game.
