HOW IT HAPPENED
- As they did in yesterday's matchup, the Falcons jumped out to an early 1-0 lead – this time in the first two minutes of the first period with junior Madeline Sheffield scoring the game's first goal.
- The 'Grims had a pretty immediate answer with 13:42 left on the clock in the opening period; Junior defender Jordan Pond (Gardner, Mass.) found freshman forward Jamie Blondin (Oakville, Ontario) up the left wall who fired off a shot on goal; Blondin's shot was saved by the goaltender, but the rebound was picked up by sophomore forward Sofia Gualtieri (Montreal, Quebec) and sent back in for the score.
- 3:13 into the second period, after Albertus had dominated time of possession to open the period, a poor pass led to a fast break opportunity for sophomore forward Samantha Babbitt (Weathersfield, Vt.). The sophomore from the Green Mountain State outskated both Falcon defenders before slapping a shot past the goalie to give the Pilgrims the 2-1 lead.
- Just past the 11-minute mark in the second, the hosts would tie the game back up at 2-2 on a high slap shot by freshman Delaney Schlechtweg.
- In the third period, an NEC penalty would prove costly as the Falcons' Molly Martin would capitalize on a power-play opportunity scoring the go-ahead goal with 12:18 left in the game.
- With 3:48 to go, head coach Mackenzie Meegan made the decision to pull the goaltender for an extra skater, a risk that would pay off just over two minutes later; With just 62 ticks left on the clock, Gualtieri received a slick pass from behind from Babbitt and Gualtieri sent the puck between the goalie's legs to tie the game up at 3-a-piece.
- Going to overtime for the second time in two days, Albertus' first opportunity of the extra period would be enough for the game-winner just 17 seconds in. Molly Martin, yesterday's overtime hero for the Falcons, came through once again with her second goal of the game to hand the hosts the win.
