HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first period was all Albertus as the hosts fired off 14 shots on goal to the Pilgrims' one, and with 6:32 remaining in the period, the Falcons broke the scoreless tie on a goal by junior Kayla Clark (Avon, Conn.).
- The 'Grims found more success on the offensive end in the second period and finally cashed in with 5:41 left when freshman defender Greta Grant (Brownfield, Maine) sent a shot just shy of the blue line and snuck it into the bottom left corner of the Falcons' goal. The equalizer was assisted by junior forward Olivia Lindberg (Stockholm, Sweden) who earned her team-high fifth assist on the season.
- Both teams searched for the go-ahead goal in the third period but were unable to find it. NEC freshman goaltender Kayden Lallier-Whissell (Stevensville, Ont.) made 19 saves in the period to help send the game to overtime.
- The Falcons were granted a power-play 56 seconds into overtime but the 'Grims were able to kill the penalty with Lallier-Whissell making a pair of saves. Both teams traded scoring opportunities deep into the extra period before Albertus' Molly Martin (Buffalo, N.Y.) netted the game-winning goal with just 35 seconds remaining.
