Women’s Soccer Drops Home Opener to Johnson & Wales

HENNIKER, N.H. – The New England College women's soccer team fell to visiting Johnson & Wales University in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Saturday afternoon at Don Melander Field in Henniker, New Hampshire.  

THE BASICS 
Score: Johnson & Wales 9, New England College 0 
Records: Wildcats 3-0, 2-0 GNAC | Pilgrims 0-3, 0-1 GNAC 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • 9:10 into the first half, the defending GNAC champion Wildcats would get the scoring started with a goal from Jamie Davies (Attleboro, Mass.). Three minutes later, Marcie Iannico (Lynbrook, N.Y.) put Johnson & Wales up 2-0. In the 22nd minute, Grace Sheehan (Monroe, Conn.) would make it a three-score game as they took a 3-0 game into the locker rooms.  
  • Coming out of halftime, Sheehan scored her 2nd and 3rd goals of the game for an early season hat trick. The Wildcats would add four more goals the rest of the way including a penalty shot in the 74th minute.   

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

  • Junior goalkeeper Hollie Bomba (Seymour, Conn.) was kept busy and made 17 saves on the day, a mark that ties her career high.  
  • The Wildcats had four goalkeepers see time in net. Ava Vaughan (New Boston, N.H.) saw the most time with 62 minutes of action and made one save.  

UP NEXT 

  • NEC is back on the field tomorrow as a quick turnaround sees the Spartans of VTSU-Castleton travel to Henniker for a 1:00 PM matchup at the Don Melander Field.  
  • JWU plays their next game at Colby-Sawyer on Wednesday, September 11th, for a 2:00 PM game against the Chargers.
