THE BASICS
Score: Delaware Valley 0, New England College 2
Records: Aggies 0-2 | Pilgrims 2-0
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a scoreless first quarter, the Pilgrims finally solved the Aggie defense at 6:46 into the second when NEC senior midfielder Taylor Bailey (Boscawen, N.H.) capitalized on a scrum in front of the Delaware Valley net, recovering a blocked shot and finishing for her second goal of the season to put the hosts ahead 1-0. Just 1:14 later off another penalty corner, NEC senior midfielder Meaghan McCamish (Warwick, R.I.) tracked down another blocked shot and tipped it into the net for her second goal of the season as the 'Grims went into halftime leading 2-0.
- With seconds remaining in the third, the Aggies had a number of premium opportunities to score in front of the NEC net with the last coming off an untimed penalty corner with the clock at 0:00. Each time, the Pilgrims' defense held fast, going into the final stanza still holding on to a 2-0 lead.
- The hosts continued to lead 2-0 with 6:11 left when Delaware Valley was awarded a penalty corner. NEC sophomore goalkeeper Makenzie Anderson (Antrim, N.H.) stepped out of the net to make the initial save and sophomore midfielder Conley Ladabouche (Barre, Vt.) made a brilliant play in front of an open Pilgrim net, tracking down the ball and helping to turn away the Aggies once again. That would be good enough for New England College to secure the win and the shutout.
