Softball Drops DH at Johnson & Wales

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The New England College softball team lost both games of their double-header at Johnson & Wales University in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Sunday at Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex in Providence, Rhode Island. The Pilgrims lost game one, 5-1, before falling short in game two, 11-2.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • NEC sophomore shortstop Grace Giesler (La Mirada, Calif.) had a strong afternoon, going three-for-five with a triple and a walk. Giesler scored the 'Grims sole run during game one, reaching home in the bottom of the sixth off an RBI single from freshman designated player Sonia Garcia (San Bernardino, Calif.). Then in the bottom of the sixth of game two, Giesler scored again off an RBI groundout from sophomore catcher Emma Lopez (Downey, Calif.).
  • Garcia herself went two-for-three in the opener while Lopez had two hits on the day.
  • NEC sophomore second baseman Ashleigh Lemay (Derry, N.H.) walked twice and scored off a wild pitch in the bottom of the fourth of game two. At press time, Lemay was leading the Pilgrims with 15 walks on the season.
UP NEXT
  • NEC is back on the field on Monday when they travel to Rivier University for a 5:00 p.m. double-header.
