Baseball Struggles at Delta Dental

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The New England College baseball team got the privilege to play at Delta Dental Stadium the home of the minor league team Fisher Cats competing against the AMCATS of Anna Maria College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Sunday in Manchester, New Hampshire.

THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In the first inning of action, things went according to plan for NEC getting out of that half allowing no runs on their behalf ending in a swinging strikeout thrown by senior left-handed pitcher Nolan Stoney (Bedford, N.H.) getting the team off to a good start.
  • NEC graduate infielder Bryce Worth (Southington, Conn.) was the first at bat for the 'Grims in the bottom of the first smacking a single into right center field to commence the offense. The next two batters found their way back into the dugout getting themselves out then senior infielder Johnny Cannavo (Weymouth, Mass.) was granted a walk that got him on first base while advancing Worth to second creating a potential scoring opportunity. Unfortunately, junior Nick Choate (Grafton, Mass.) had other plans in mind striking out another NEC batter to close out the inning with no runs allowed.
  • Things were going well for the AMCATS in the second inning bashing a solo homerun to left field credited to Josh Batchelder (Lake Worth, Fla.) for the early one run lead that helped sparked an additional six runs that resulted in Stoney getting pulled from the game at the end of the fifth innning.
  • In the top of the sixth the bats continued to stay hot for AMC scoring four more insurance runs to expand upon their lead they created for themselves making the score 11-0. With the game out of reach Cannavo still tried to make something happen for NEC after being walked again then shortly advancing his way over to second after a wild pitch thrown but the inning would conclude with no runs scored for the 'Grims.
  • With the end in sight going into the bottom of the seventh inning, the 'Grims were unable to get anything to go their way even after freshman outfielder Jason Figuereo (Lynn, Mass.) did everything he could to get on base with his single into right center field. At that point in time they only had one more out to spare once he was plated. The final batter for NEC was grounded out resulting in the loss for the 'Grims, 11-0.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • NEC's Stoney took the loss for 'Grims after pitching for five innings.
