PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The New England College baseball team fell to Johnson & Wales in seven innings on Sunday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex in Providence, Rhode Island.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- With two outs in the top of the first, senior infielder Brett Patnode (Weare, N.H.) sent a 3-1 pitch over the center field wall for his first home run of the season. After Patnode's solo shot put the 'Grims up 1-0, Johnson & Wales went on to score 14 runs in the bottom of the inning, all of which scored with two outs.
- In the third, the NEC 1-2-3 hitters would all reach base on consecutive walks, and senior infielder Johnny Cannavo (Weymouth, Mass.) would drive in junior infielder Brady Philibotte (Weare, N.H.) on an infield single. Graduate infielder Cooper Ribaudo (Salem, N.H.) would follow up with a single up the middle into center field, scoring both graduate infielder Bryce Worth (Southington, Conn.) and Patnode to cap off a three-run inning.
- The Wildcats set the tone early, following their 14-run first inning with 13 more runs the rest of the way while hitting 10 extra-base hits on the day.
UP NEXT
- NEC has a quick turnaround as the team travels to Colby-Sawyer on Monday for a 2:30 PM start in hopes of getting in a game against the Chargers that has now been rained out twice.
- Johnson & Wales also plays their next game in New London, New Hampshire, with their matchup against Colby-Sawyer coming on Tuesday at 2:30 PM.
