HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a scoreless first two innings, it was Westminster that broke through in the third with an RBI double and a pair of sacrifice flies to jump out to an early 3-0 lead.
- Down 4-0 entering the seventh, the Pilgrims loaded the bases with a pair of singles from junior infielder Brady Philibotte (Weare, N.H.) and graduate infielder Bryce Worth (Southington, Conn.), and then a walk by senior infielder Brett Patnode (Weare, N.H.). With two outs, senior infielder Johnny Cannavo (Weymouth, Mass.) came through with a hot shot up the middle for a two-run single.
- In the top of the eighth, the 'Grims would once again load the bases – this time on three-straight walks. With two outs, Patnode came through in the clutch with a bases-clearing triple to deep left-center field scoring graduate catcher Aaron Robertson (Weare, N.H.), junior outfielder Kyle Dobrie (Mastic, N.Y.), and Philibotte to take a 5-4 lead. The next batter, freshman outfielder Daemon Tarpley (Orlando, Fla.), would reach on an infield single, scoring Patnode and expanding the lead to two.
- In the bottom-half of the eighth inning, Westminster quickly saw two hitters reach base via a leadoff walk and a hit-by-pitch. Following a groundout, infielder Josh Reed (Beaver Falls, Pa.) launched a go-ahead three-run homer to put the Titans on top. NEC would go down in order in the top of the ninth to give Westminster the 7-6 victory.
