MANCHESTER, N.H. – The New England College softball team swept both ends of their double-header against the University of Maine Presque Isle on Friday afternoon in non-conference action at Trinity H.S. Field in Manchester, New Hampshire. The Pilgrims took game one, 11-3, before prevailing by the same score in game two. NEC runs their record to 6-11 on the season.
TOP 'GRIMS
- NEC graduate leftfielder Emily Gagne (Portsmouth, N.H.) continued her brilliant lead-off season, going five-for-six on the day with two walks, six stolen bases and five runs scored. Gagne, already NEC's all-time record holder in career stolen bases, has solidified her place as one of the best lead-off hitters in the region, as she currently leads the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) in stolen bases while ranking second in batting average and on-base percentage.
- Sophomore second baseman Ashleigh Lemay (Derry, N.H.) hit her first career home run in the bottom of the first inning of game one, an inside the park shot that drove in three runs. The second-year infielder finished the day with three hits and four RBI.
- Sophomore catcher Emma Lopez (Downey, Calif.) reached base every time she came to the plate, finishing the day by going three-for-three with a walk, a hit-by-pitch, a triple and two runs batted in.
- Sophomore shortstop Grace Giesler (La Mirada, Calif.) finished with three hits including a ground-ruled double, two stolen bases and four RBI.
- Junior pitcher Olivia Olson (North Haven, Conn.) picked up the game one win, allowing just three hits and striking out four Owls in five innings.
- Senior pitcher Jocelin Vachon (Manchester, N.H.) picked up her first win of the season in game two, allowing just one hit in four innings.
