HENNIKER, N.H. - New England College senior center
Kathleen Rodriguez (McFarland, Calif.) of the NEC women's basketball team was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Player of the Week for the week ending on February 4
th, as announced by the conference on Monday afternoon.
Rodriguez helped lead her team to a 2-0 record on the week, with conference wins over Regis College on Tuesday and Mitchell College on Saturday. Across the two games, the senior averaged 25.0 points per game on a combined 24-of-27 (88.8%) shooting to go along with 12.5 rebounds per game. But what really set Rodriguez apart this week was her individual performance against Mitchell, where the California-native exploded for 32 points in record-setting fashion. She went a perfect 16-of-16 from the field, matching the all-time Division-III record for best field goal percentage in a game and setting the new Division-III high-mark for the 2023-24 season.
"Kathy had a great week." NEC head coach
Erica Ledy said of her star center. "She played great in the post. Not only did she score at a great shooting percentage, but she also played good defense and dominated the boards at both ends!"
On the season, Rodriguez is averaging close to a double-double with 13.7 points and 9.4 rebounds per game, while her 67.8 percent shooting from the floor ranks first in Division-III and second in the nation. She will look to remain efficient as she and the rest of the team hosts Norwich University on Wednesday at 5:00 PM as the 'Grims seek another important conference win.
