Women’s Ice Hockey Dealt Non-Conference Loss at Keene

KEENE, N.H. – The New England College women's ice hockey team fell at Keene State on Friday evening at Keene Ice in Keene, New Hampshire, in non-conference action.

THE BASICS
Score: New England College 2, Keene State 7
Records: Pilgrims 0-10-0 | Owls 6-4-0

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Keene State wasted little time before getting the offense going, scoring twice in the first six minutes in the opening period. At 4:51, Ava Iantosca (Dedham, Mass.) put the Owls ahead 1-0, and at 5:59, Brianna Finke (Cypress County, Alb.) gave the hosts a 2-0 advantage.
  • With just under a minute left in the first period, the 'Grims would manage to cut the Keene State lead to one on a goal by sophomore forward Samantha Babbitt (Weathersfield, Vt.). Babbitt received a pass from behind the Owl's net from freshman forward Angelina De Divitiis (St. Catherines, Ontario) and snuck the puck past the goalkeeper for her first score of the season. Freshman defender Greta Grant (Brownfield, Maine) was also credited with her second assist of the year.
  • The second period followed a similar script to the first, with Keene adding two more goals in the first six minutes. Keene's Haylee Owen (Homer, Alaska) scored the team's third goal 3:18 into the period, followed by Finke netting her second goal of the game at the 5:19 mark.
  • Midway through the second, with 9:51 to go in the period, the Pilgrims scored their second goal of the game to make it a 2-4 game. NEC junior forward Kate Devlin (Walpole, Mass.) jumpstarted a fastbreak by finding junior forward Meadow Gilchrist (Stamford, Conn.) and Gilchrist skated toward the Owl's net, made a move around a defender, and deposited the puck into the back of the net for her team-leading fifth goal of the season.
  • Keene State would score three times in the third period to put the game out of reach for a final score of 7-2, Owls.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • For NEC, sophomore goaltender Lucy Armour (Falmouth, Mass.) and freshman goaltender Kayden Lallier-Whissell (Stevensville, Ontario) split time in net; Armour made 10 saves in roughly 25 minutes of action while Lallier-Whissell stopped 18 shots over the final 35 minutes.
  • Madelyn Adamic (Mentor, Ohio) started for the Owls and made six saves in the first period. Makenna Montgomery (St. Albans, Vt.) tallied 19 saves across the final two periods.
  • Shots on goal were 35-27 in favor of the Owls.
  • Each team recorded nine blocked shots each, with NEC junior forward Olivia Lindberg (Stockholm, Sweden) getting in the way of a game-high four shots.

UP NEXT

  • The two teams are back in action tomorrow in a rematch of this evening's game; the second half of the back-to-back will see the two teams move up to Henniker for an NEC home game starting at 1:00 PM at the Lee Clement Arena.
