Men’s Ice Hockey Bested by Bantams

HARTFORD, Conn. – The New England College men's ice hockey team fell to Trinity College on Tuesday evening at the Koeppel Community Sports Center in Hartford, Connecticut in non-conference action.

THE BASICS
Score: New England College 2, Trinity College 6
Records: Pilgrims 1-5-1 | Bantams 5-1-1

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Trinity would strike twice in the first period, first on a power-play goal by Alexander Mozian (Old Greenwich, Conn.) 4:13 into the game, and second on an even-strength score from David Paluch (Burlington, Ont.) at the 9:17 mark.
  • The hosts continued to do their damage in the early goings of each period, adding two more goals in the first seven minutes of the second period. Dane Carter (Concord, Mass.) put the Bantams up 3-0, before Spencer Korona (Enfield, Conn.) scored the team's second power-play goal of the night to go up four.
  • The Bantams would again convert on some early power-play opportunities in the third period; James Barbour (Lake Forest, Ill.) would score his first goal of the game at the 3:58 mark followed by Korona tallying his second at 4:56.
  • The 'Grims would get on the board midway through the third period when sophomore defenseman Martins Leps (Riga, Latvia) found sophomore forward Gunnar Sibley (Monticello, Minn.) around center ice and Sibley did the rest himself, weaving through three defenders before sending the puck into the top left corner of the Bantam net.
  • NEC would score again with 2:44 remaining in the game as freshman defenseman Andrew Ralston (San Jose, Calif.) sent in a shot that was redirected by senior forward David Novotny (Boca Raton, Fla.) for his third goal of the season. Junior defenseman Graham Padgitt (St. Charles, Ill.) was also credited with his first assist of the season on the score.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • In net for the Pilgrims, freshman goaltender Anthony Beaulieu (Lawrence, Mass.) made 41 saves.
  • Devon Bobak (Northwood, Ohio) tallied 29 saves and allowed one goal before being relieved by Nikolas Barnes (Newport, R.I.) who saw just the one shot and goal from Novotny.
  • Shots on goal were 47-31 in favor of the Bantams.
  • Trinity had the advantage on faceoffs, winning 34-17, while NEC led in blocked shots, 26-14. Sophomore defenseman Christophe Petit (Chelsea, Quebec) had seven blocked shots in the game, three more than any other player.
