Box Score FITCHBURG, Mass. – The New England College men's ice hockey team opened their 2024-2025 season with a 3-1 loss at Fitchburg State University on Friday evening at the Wallace Civic Center in in non-conference action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Down 1-0 to open the second period, the 'Grims capitalized on a power play opportunity when NEC sophomore forward Vesse-Wincent Lampen (Espoo, Finland) scored his first goal as a Pilgrim, assisted by sophomore forward Jack Herron (Lake in the Hills, Ill.) and sophomore defenseman Christophe Petit (Chelsea, Quebec). Just like that it was a new game tied at 1-1 just 2:49 into the second.
- The Falcons would answer with 11:55 to go in the second period when FSU senior defenseman Jack Johansen (Milford, N.H.) scored his first goal of the season to give the lead back to the hosts. An insurance goal late on a power play in the third period clinched the win for Fitchburg.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- NEC sophomore goaltender Xavier Lapierre (Cap-santé, Quebec) tallied 18 saves between the pipes for the Pilgrims in his first career start.
- Fitchburg junior goalkeeper Max Macchioni (North Kingstown, R.I.) finished with 32 stops for the Falcons.
- FSU sophomore forwards Hunter Dunn (Douglas, Mass.) and Matteo Orme Lynch (Courbevoie, France) each scored for the Falcons.
