HOW IT HAPPENED
- An Elms' corner kick just two minutes into the game led to a Blazers' goal from graduate midfielder Hannah Kolodziey (East Longmeadow, Mass.) with an assist to senior forward Kelly Malheiro (Centereach, N.Y.) as the visitors went up 1-0. The 'Grims would find the equalizer in the 13th minute off a corner kick of their own when a ball launched by NEC freshman defender Julianna Barrett (Orange, Conn.) was redirected by freshman midfielder Madison Bowman (Coventry, Vt.) and blasted into the net by freshman midfielder Michelina Follis (Saugus, Mass.) for her second career goal, tying the game up at one apiece.
- The Blazers would regain the lead with exactly six minutes left in the first half when Elms graduate forward Kellie Smith (Marshfield, Mass.) beat two defenders for possession and shot the ball true for her second goal of the season as the visitors went into halftime leading 2-1.
- With 18:28 left in the game, the Blazers picked up an insurance goal when Malheiro tracked down a putback off a shot from Elms junior forward Jamie McDonough (Dedham, Mass.) saved by the NEC keeper and finished as the visitors went ahead 3-1. That would hold up for the final.
