Field Hockey Shuts Out Elms in Final Road Game

CHICOPEE, M.A. - The New England College field hockey team took home a shutout win at Elms College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Saturday at Leary Field in Chicopee, Massachusetts. 

THE BASICS 
Score: New England College: 8, Elms College: 0

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • The Pilgrims got off to a hot start offensively as they got seven shots off in the first five minutes, with senior midfielder Meaghan McCamish (Warwick, R.I.) getting three of them. After an Elms foul, senior midfielder Taylor Bailey (Boscawen, N.H.) found graduate forward Drea Chin (Laconia, N.H.) for her first goal of the game off of a penalty corner. Bailey got her second assist of the day as she found junior forward Martina Hill (Abbot, Maine), who buried it home to give the Pilgrims a 2-0 lead heading into the second quarter. 
  • NEC kept their foot on the gas pedal as they got eight shots off in the first five minutes of the second quarter. Chin scored her second goal of the game as she got a penalty stroke past goalie Emily Hunt. Just 24 seconds later, junior forward Cristina Manzi (Peapack, N.J.) scored her lone goal of the game. The 'Grims got six shots off on Hunt in the next eight minutes before Chin found the back of the net yet again for her third goal of the game to give the Pilgrims a 5-0 lead heading into the half. 
  • The third quarter wasn't any different as Manzi was able to get four shots off within a minute before freshman forward Olivia Worthen (Weare, N.H.) scored her first collegiate goal to make it 6-0, which held up until the end of the quarter. 
  • Just five minutes into the fourth quarter, sophomore forward Kylee Henriquez (Methuen, Mass.) joined in on the action as she was able to bury one off a pass from Chin. Just 51 seconds later, Chin scored her fourth goal to give the Pilgrims an 8-0 lead that held until the end of the game for the Pilgrims to win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

  • The Pilgrims got 44 shots off with 30 on goal, with 20 shots on goal split between Chin and Manzi, who has 11 and 9, respectively. 
  • With her huge performance, Chin continues her ascent up the program's record books - jumping up to second in career points with 177.
  • Bailey finished the day with three of the team's five assists.
  • Out of the 30 shots on goal, Hunt made the save on 22 of them.

  • NEC is back on the field on Wednesday when they close out their regular season schedule against Lasell on Don Melander Field at 7:00 PM.
