Falcons Obtain 1-0 Win Over Women’s Soccer

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The New England College women's soccer team dropped their road matchup 1-0 against Albertus Magnus College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Saturday at Celentano Field in New Haven Connecticut.

THE BASICS
Score: New England College 0, Albertus Magnus College 1
Records: Pilgrims 1-13-1, 1-10-1 GNAC | Falcons 8-3-4, 6-3-3 GNAC

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first half was a valiant effort put together by the defense of NEC allowing not a single shot to fall into the back of the net after an array of shots were fired by Albertus letting off a total of 10. This allowed for things to remain even going into halftime with neither team able to strike, 0-0.
  • Things were at a standstill for the majority of the second half with no team able to gain any momentum over the other. A foul late in the game occurred by the 'Grims that bestowed the Falcons a free kick. Once the kick was launched there was a mix of 'Grims and Falcons fighting for the ball ending with AMC freshman midfielder Evie Tyrrell (Vernon, Conn.) ripping a shot that was denied by junior goalkeeper Hollie Bomba (Seymour, Conn.). Unfortunately, the ball bounced off her hands putting it back into play for another shot to be taken that resulted in a goal for AMC senior forward Erina Ismaili (Middlebury, Conn.) assisted by Tyrell at 10:30.
  • From there on NEC was unable to answer back with the time remaining concluding in a GNAC victory for the Falcons on the day.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Bomba finished her outing with six saves at the pitch for the 'Grims.
  • AMC junior goalkeeper Amy Stevens (Lincoln, R.I.) had an easy day at the office recording zero saves during the game.
  • AMC Ismaili was responsible for the lone goal in the GNAC contest making it the senior's eighth on the season.
  • Shots were heavily in favor of the Falcons recording 17 compared NEC only managing to take one.
  • AMC earned more corner kick opportunities gathering four while the 'Grims couldn't collect one on the day.

UP NEXT
  • NEC is back on the field of Don Melander when they host the Cadets of Norwich University under lights at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, October 23rd.
  • The Falcons will be at Dean College for their next game on Wednesday, October 23rd at 3:00 PM.
