TURNING POINTS
  • Things were close in the early going of the contest, but the defense of NEC began to buckle down towards the end as they allowed for no scoring to occur in the last 3:49 of the first quarter concluding with the Pilgrims out in front, 17-7.
  • EC picked things up in the second quarter as they managed to outscore the Pilgrims, 18-10 thanks to the help of their 7-0 run they produced during that time. EC sophomore Bri Frongillo (Hopedale, MA) helped carried the load of the Lions points down the stretch as she scored six of the team's 18 points during the quarter that brought them to within two points going into halftime, 27-25 with NEC still in the lead.
  • Third quarter started out in similar fashion as the first with it being closely contested in the early going up until the 4:26 where the Pilgrims scoring began to diminish as they went the remainder of the quarter scoreless as they allowed the Lions to capitalize on gathering nine points to be scored in that span that had EC in control, 46-41.
  • NEC's slump continued on into the fourth quarter as they still were unable to find the basket taking up 9:45 of game time without scoring until at 5:19 senior guard Alissia Corona (Wylie, Tex.) got the team going off a made three pointer with the Lions still having the upper hand, 52-44.
  • Pilgrims at 3:51 strung together a run of 10-0 that wrapped up at 2:15 coming from junior guard Amya Moss (Norfolk, Va.) from behind the arc that gave the team a two-point lead, 57-55.
  • From there on the Pilgrims off night shooting comes but to haunt them as they had no answer to score for 2:08 that allowed for the Lions to acquire six points that resulted in EC securing the home win, 61-59.
