MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The New England College men's ice hockey team scored the game's opening goal but would ultimately allow four unanswered goals to fall to Middlebury College on Tuesday evening at the Chip Kenyon Arena in Middlebury, Vermont in non-conference action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- With 3:25 left in the first period, the 'Grims got the scoring underway as freshman right-wing Shane Adler (Dallas, Tex.) netted his second goal of the season to give NEC the 1-0 lead. The goal was assisted by freshmen forward Gunnar Sibley (Monticello, Minn.) and defenseman Cam Perez (West Hartford, Conn.), with Perez collecting his team-high sixth assist of the season.
- In the second, the Panthers would respond with two goals of their own to snatch away the lead. The first came with 15:16 remaining as Zach Whitehead (Meriden, N.H.) buried a power-play goal, assisted by Andrej Hromic (Wauconda, Ill.) and Jackson Morehouse (Pittsburgh, Pa.). Just under a minute later, the hosts would score a short-handed goal off the stick of Wyatt Pastor (Norwalk, Conn.), with the lone assist coming from Matt Myers (Worcester, Mass.).
- The third period would see Middlebury expand their lead first to 3-1 on a goal by Chris Garbe (Miller Place, N.Y.), and later 4-1 after a goal by Jin Lee (Stamford, Conn.) following the 'Grims pulling their goalie in the final minutes of the game.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- NEC's senior goaltender Kai Tomita (Misawa, Japan) made 27 saves while allowing three goals in the loss.
- Middlebury first-year goalkeeper Andrew Heinze (North Andover, Mass.) stopped 34/35 shots for the Panthers.
- Shots on goal were 35-31 in favor of the Pilgrims, while the Panthers found the edge on faceoffs, 35-24.
