HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Just over five minutes into the game, Elmira forward Claire Meeder (Woodbury, Minn.) got the scoring going to give the hosts an early 1-0 advantage, though the 'Grims would hold them scoreless for the remainder of the first period. However, in the second, the Soaring Eagles would open up the floodgates. Five different Elmira players would score goals: Emily Lenzen (Littleton, Colo.), Anna Lugge (Freeburg, Ill.), Sophie Campeau (Potsdam, N.Y.), Piper Andrews (Fergus Falls, Minn.), and Katie Manning (Chicago, Ill.). A scoreless third period from both teams would cement the final score of 6-0 in favor of the Soaring Eagles.
