THE BASICS
Score: UMass Boston 3, New England College 0
Records: Pilgrims 5-13-0, 1-11-0 NEHC | Beacons 5-9-3, 4-4-2 NEHC
HOW IT HAPPENED
- A hotly contested first period went scoreless despite both teams receiving 5-on-3 power play opportunities, with the Beacons holding a slight 10-9 advantage in shots-on-goal.
- UMass Boston finally got on the board with 16:03 to go in the second period when sophomore forward Liz Kramp (Farmington Hills, Mich.) created the turnover deep in NEC's zone, with the puck finding freshman forward Kristen Briggs (Foster, R.I.) behind the goal who fed a streaking freshman forward Isabella Henningsson-Brown (Portland, Ore.) for the shot and her first career goal, putting the Beacons ahead 1-0.
- Still leading by one entering the second intermission, UMass Boston picked up an insurance goal just 1:30 into the third period when senior forward Hannah MacDougall (South Dartmouth, Mass.) scored her second goal of the season to put the Beacons up 2-0, assisted by freshman defender Emma Webster (Appleton, Wis.) and sophomore forward Allie Reifler (Binghamton, N.Y.).
- The Beacons would make it 3-0 on a power play goal with 7:09 left in the game when UMB freshman defender Jenna Fitzsimmons (Ashland, Mass.) scored her first career goal, assisted by Reifler and sophomore defender Gabby Shontz (Reading, Vt.). The Pilgrims were unable to answer, and that would hold up for the final score.
