HENNIKER, N.H. – The New England College men's ice hockey team ends with a loss in a high-ranked home stand against the number two team in the nation, Elmira College, on Saturday afternoon at Lee Clement Arena in Henniker, New Hampshire in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Although being the guests in the matchup, Elmira came out firing on all cylinders as they scored on two goals in under three minutes. The first of which came 1:33 into the first period where senior defender Amedeo Mastrangeli (Richmond Hill, Ont.) snuck in the puck and beat the goalie's reaction as he was assisted by senior forward Janis Vezbelis (Riga, Latvia). The second goal in the first period came at the 2:11 mark when the Soaring Eagles scored on a 2-on-1 opportunity from sophomore forward Kerfalla Toure (Montreal, Quebec) and was assisted by junior forward Joel Pavey (Sarnia, Ont.).
- NEC kept things from getting out of their reach as freshman center Paul Waldhauser (Klagenfurt, Austria) struck in a quick one at the 8:53 mark as he was assisted by junior forward David Novotny (Boca Raton, Fla.) and put Elmira up only 2-1.
- Staying in the second period, the Soaring Eagles answered with another two goals with the first coming at the 12:33 mark with senior forward Nicholas Domitrovic (Ottawa, Ont.) scored after stopping the 'Grims from getting out front while being assisted by senior forward Shawn Kennedy (Bainsvile, Ont.). About to head into the second intermission, Elmira scored with 0:44 remaining on a five-minute powerplay opportunity as it was Kennedy on the goal with both senior defender Jordan Gonzalez (Hamburg, N.Y.) and senior forward Ryan Reifler (Binghamton, N.Y.) on the assist.
- The 'Grims gave one final push in the third period when junior forward Ike Taraszewski (Wayzata, Minn.) and junior forward Jesper Tarkiainen (Naperville, Ill.) made a play behind the opponent's net to set up freshman forward Jack Herron (Lake in the Hills, Ill.) with a goal to cut the Elmira lead to 4-2.
- The Soaring Eagles capped off a physical and emotional night with an open-net goal from Reifler to end the game 5-2 in favor of Elmira.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- NEC sophomore goaltender Danny Miscavish (Macomb, Mich.) ended the matchup with 28 saves.
- Elmira sophomore goaltender Brody Haynes (York, Pa.) concluded the win with 24 saves.
- The Soaring Eagles had outshot the 'Grims 33-26 on goal.
- NEC won the faceoff battle by a 31-29 advantage in the afternoon.
