Beacons Get the Better of Men’s Ice Hockey

BOSTON, M.A.– The New England College men's ice hockey team was on road for their Friday night showdown at Clark Athletic Center from Boston, Massachusetts in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) action.
THE BASICS
Score:                    New England College 3, UMass Boston 5
Records:               Pilgrims 3-15-1, 1-10-1 NEHC | Beacons 6-10-2, 4-7-0 NEHC
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Pilgrims got off to a slow start in the first period of play as the Beacons wasted no time getting themselves onto the scoreboard with a goal scored coming in just 2:37. They set the tone for the remainder of the period as they tacked on another two goals to ensure a secure lead.
  • That didn't stop NEC in the second period from going on a pursuit straightening out their position within the game as they began things with the first goal of the period thanks to freshman forward Gunnar Sibley (Monticello, Minn.) assisted by junior forward Wyatt Andres (Brainerd, Minn.) and freshman defenseman Cam Perez (West Hartford, Conn.). With 3:55 left the scoring didn't conclude as the Pilgrims managed to find the back of the net one more time before the things wrapped up in the period coming from the likes of sophomore defenseman Graham Padgitt (St. Charles, Ill.) from junior forward David Novotny (Boca Raton, Fla.) and junior forward Jesper Tarkiainen (Naperville, Ill.). Defensively the team performed well on that end of the ice as they allowed no goals to be scored by UMass Boston.
  • NEC picked up right where they left off in the previous period as they score once again in the third wasting no time to make their statement in this conference matchup evening things up with the goal coming in the first 35 seconds of the period credited to freshman forward Jack Herron (Lake in the Hills, Ill.) passed up by junior forward Ike Taraszewski (Wayzata, Minn.) and freshman defenseman Christophe Petit (Chelsea, Quebec).
  • From there on the Beacons took control finding themselves back in the driver's seat within the game scoring the final two goals that would ultimately solidify their conference victory over the Pilgrims.
