HENNIKER, N.H. – The New England College women's volleyball team defeated visiting Vermont State University-Johnson in four sets on Tuesday evening at Bridges Gymnasium in Henniker, New Hampshire.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After dropping the very first point of the day, the Pilgrims went on a 10-2 run to gain control of the first set. The Pilgrims would go on to claim the first set, 25 to 16, winning the final point on a kill by freshman middle-blocker Jamie Hansen (New Underwood, S.D.).
- After VSU-Johnson went ahead 10-8 early in the second set, NEC responded by winning eight straight points to go up 16-10. The Badgers would soon pull within 3 before the Pilgrims pulled away, winning the second set, 25-17.
- The third set was dominated by the Badgers, as the visitors did not trail for a single point – finally winning the set, 25-14.
- In search of a rebound, the Pilgrims found themselves in a back-and-forth, hotly competitive fourth set. Some huge kills, notably by juniors Savannah Pilialoha (Waipahu, Hawaii) and Torrance Robertson (Bakersfield, Calif.), put NEC in a position to put the set, and the match, away. The 'Grims would do exactly that – winning the fourth set, 25-17, finished off by a strong kill by Robertson.
