THE BASICSÂ
Score: Thomas College 8, New England College 2Â
Records: Terriers 7-3, 0-0 NACÂ | Pilgrims 4-6, 3-3 GNACÂ
HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
- NEC did not get off to the start that they were hoping for on alumni weekend but did show some fight as sophomore midfielder Cristina Manzi (Peapack, N.J.) struck in a straight-shot goal off a no-look pass from graduate forward Mikayla Vincent (Newburyport, Mass.) at the 9:46 mark in the second quarter.Â
- Vincent was on the opposite end of the spectrum as she scored a goal off a pass from sophomore forward Martina Hill (Abbot, Maine) who was able to dive for the ball and pass to Vincent before Thomas' goalkeeper could disrupt it.Â
- The Terriers were led by junior midfielder Julia Reny (Gardiner, Maine) who scored her career-high in goals with four along with a supplemental two assists to give Thomas a whopping 8-2 win.Â
INSIDE THE NUMBERSÂ
- 'Grims sophomore goalkeeper Makenzie Anderson (Antrim, N.H.) had her day cut out for her as she saved 17 shots in 45 minutes of action.Â
- Thomas goalkeeper Elise Syphers (Auburn, Maine) had less activity on her end, saving two shots.Â
- The Terriers had shown no mercy by getting a 43-12 advantage on total shots, with a 27-4 edge on shots on goal.Â
- Thomas also led in penalty corners taken with 15 compared to NEC's five.Â
TIDBITSÂ
- Both teams came in comradery as they celebrated prior to the game the National Field Hockey Coaches Association's (NFHCA) Field Hockey Umpire Appreciation Week as we value game officials for all their hard work and dedication to make it a fair-play contest each and every time.Â
