The Monks Hand Men's Soccer First Conference Loss

STANDISH, M.E.- The New England College men's soccer team was on the road for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup against the Monks of Saint Joeseph's College of Maine that result in defeat, 0-2 from SJC Athletics Complex. 

THE BASICS  

Score: New England College 0, Saint Joeseph's College of Maine 2 

Records: Pilgrims 3-2-4, 2-1-3 GNAC | Monks 6-1-2, 6-0 GNAC 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • Both teams looked defensively stout in the first half of the game with neither team showing any give going into the half. 

  • The second half is when the momentum started to pile on for the Monks as they found the back of the net at the 75:35 mark with goal from sophomore midfielder Joseph Perron (South Portland, Maine) with the assist credited to junior forward Gus Ford (Falmouth, Maine) and junior Rion Dos Santos (São Paulo Brazil). 

  • Shortly after they followed up with another one taking place at 78:43 earned by Ford off a penalty kick that solidified the Monks conference victory. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

  • Junior goalkeeper Hayden Walker (Manchester, N.H.) finished the evening gathering two saves at the pitch. 

  •  Monks Perron and Ford recorded a goal while both Dos Santos and Ford gathered an assist, respectively. 

UP NEXT 

  • NEC will be up against another set of conference foes in the Wildcats of Johnson & Wales University on Saturday, September 30 at 4:00 PM from Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex. 
  • Saint Joeseph's College of Maine will be up against Elms College on Saturday, September 30 at 5:00 PM.
