Field Hockey Posts Dominant Shutout of Beavers

HENNIKER, N.H. – The New England College field hockey team put up an impressive showing against visiting UMaine-Farmington, shutting out the Beavers 9-0 in non-conference action on Wednesday evening at Don Melander Field in Henniker, New Hampshire.

THE BASICS
Score: UMaine-Farmington 0, New England College 9
Records: Beavers 0-7 | Pilgrims 4-5

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • 3:27 into the game, junior midfielder Meaghan McCamish (Warwick, R.I.) got NEC on the board, as junior midfielder Taylor Bailey (Boscawen, N.H.) received the pass off the penalty corner, sent it in hot towards the goal, and McCamish re-directed the assist into the net to take the early 1-0 lead.
  • It was the McCamish show early in this one for the 'Grims, as the junior would score her second goal of the night at the 9:37 mark, and then secure the early hat-trick just 9:58 into the game.
  • NEC would score once again, 10:17 into the second quarter, as graduate forward Drea Chin (Laconia, N.H.) found the back of the net, with the assist again coming from Bailey.
  • Coming out of the break, 3:49 into the second half, after two first-half assists, Bailey would score a goal of her own, her first of the season.
  • Looking to further add to their lead in the fourth quarter, the 'Grims stayed on attack and graduate forward Mikayla Vincent (Newburyport, Mass.) capitalized, taking a rebound off the goalie and scoring the team's sixth goal of the game.
  • With just 8:02 left to go, the 'Grims were not done. Senior forward Emma LaPierre (Franklin, N.H.) scored her first goal of the season, once again assisted by Bailey, to send the lead to 7-0. But wait, there's more! LaPierre was not content with just one goal on the evening, as she would score again just two minutes later, assisted by Vincent.
  • Around the two-minute mark, Chin would drive all the way into the net and score her second goal of the night – capping off the team's 9-0 victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • NEC featured a pair of goalkeepers, with sophomore Makenzie Anderson (Antrim, N.H.) and freshman Amy Philbin (Long Island, N.Y.) both shutting out the Beavers for 30 minutes a piece, with Philbin collecting the first two saves of her college career.
  • UMaine-Farmington freshman Ella Grant (Sturbridge, Mass.) had a busy night, stopping 23/32 shots.
  • The Pilgrims outshot the Beavers 54-2.
