Softball Rallies to Split at Eastern Nazarene

REVERE, Mass. – The New England College softball team split their double-header at Eastern Nazarene College in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) action on Saturday afternoon at Griswold Park in Revere, Massachusetts, losing game one, 8-0, before rallying to win 10-7 in extra innings in game two.

TOP 'GRIMS
  • NEC freshman catcher Emma Lopez (Downey, Calif.) was one of the few bright spots for the Pilgrims in game one, going two-for-two at the plate and allowing just one stolen base over five innings. For the day, Lopez finished with five hits, two runs scored and an RBI.
  • Freshman centerfielder Grace Giesler (La Mirada, Calif.) continued to show why she's one of the best rookies in the conference in game two, going four-of-five with three runs batted in, a triple and a stolen base.
  • Graduate third baseman Destiny Helmedach (Middlefield, Conn.), who earlier in the week set the NEC hits record, smacked a solo home run in the top of the fourth of game two, her team-leading second home of the season.
  • Senior Taylor Maher (Piscataway, N.J.) posted two RBI base hits.
UP NEXT
  • NEC is back on the field on Thursday when they travel to Rivier University for a 5:00 p.m. double-header against a future Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opponent.
  • Eastern Nazarene plays their next game at home on Monday against Albertus Magnus College at 3:00 p.m.
