Softball Edged in Pitcher’s Duel at Rivier

NASHUA, N.H. – The New England College softball team lost both ends of their double-header at Rivier University on Thursday evening at Raider Diamond in Nashua, New Hampshire, losing game one, 5-4, before suffering a 2-1 loss in the nightcap.
GAME 1 – NEC 4, RIVIER 5
  • NEC sophomore pitcher Olivia Olson (North Haven, Conn.) allowed just one earned run in four innings in game one, striking out two Raiders.
  • Graduate third baseman Destiny Helmedach (Middlefield, Conn.), already the Pilgrims' all-time leader in career hits, hit an RBI single through the right side in the top of the fifth to drive in freshman second baseman Ashleigh Lemay (Derry, N.H.). On the very next at-bat, senior infielder Taylor Maher (Piscataway, N.J.) doubled in two runs to put the 'Grims up 4-2.
  • The Raiders rallied in the bottom of the seventh, scoring three runs to pluck victory from the jaws of defeat.

  • NEC graduate pitcher Emily Farone (Sandown, N.H.) pitched a brilliant game two, allowing just one earned run in six and two-third innings, allowing just five hits.
  • NEC senior centerfielder Jasmin Alvarado (Spring Valley, Calif.) tied the game in the top of the seventh with a single to right field to plate senior left-fielder Monica Andrade (Escondido, Calif.).
