Softball Splits at NVU Johnson

JOHNSON, Vt. – The New England College softball team split their Wednesday afternoon double-header at Northern Vermont University Johnson in non-conference action in Johnson, Vermont. The Pilgrims took game one, 7-2, before falling just short in the nightcap, 9-8.
TOP 'GRIMS
  • Graduate third baseman Destiny Helmedach (Middlefield, Conn.), already the Pilgrims' all-time leader in hits, runs and RBIs, went five-of-nine on the day with four doubles and two runs plated.
  • NEC freshman centerfielder / shortstop Grace Giesler (La Mirada, Calif.), already second in the nation in triples, put up two more on Wednesday during game one, giving her eleven on the season. The star rookie finished with four hits on the day, scoring three runs and hitting a double with a run batted in.
  • Senior outfielder Monica Andrade (Escondido, Calif.) continued her stellar play of late, going five of eight at the plate.
  • Senior first baseman Taylor Maher (Piscataway, N.J.) hit .500 for the day, with a triple and two runs scored.
  • Sophomore pitcher Jocelin Vachon (Manchester, N.H.) posted the best outing of her collegiate career, tallying a career-best five strikeouts and picking up the game one win.

  • NEC is back on the field on Saturday when they travel to Lesley University in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) action.
