Andrade’s Grand Slam Splits Softball with Lions

HENNIKER, N.H. – The New England College softball team split their Saturday double-header against visiting Eastern Nazarene College in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) action on Saturday afternoon at Old Concord Road Field in Henniker, New Hampshire. The Pilgrims saw the first game slip away with a 7-2 loss before rallying for a 12-2 victory in game two, improving their record to 13-19 with a 4-6 mark in NECC play with just two league games remaining.

TOP 'GRIMS
  • NEC senior left-fielder Monica Andrade (Escondido, Calif.), coming into the day with one home run over the course of her career, came to the plate in the bottom of the second of game two with the bases loaded and crushed a ball to the leftfield line pole for a grand slam, putting the 'Grims up 10-2. On her very next at-bat in the bottom of the fourth, Andrade hit a two-run blast over the leftfield wall for her third career home run as NEC took a 12-2 lead for their fourth conference win of the season.
  • Freshman centerfielder / shortstop Grace Giesler (La Mirada, Calif.) put on a clinic, going six-for-six at the plate with two doubles, a triple, two RBIs and three runs scored. Giesler, who came into the day leading all NECC rookies in hits, batting average, runs batted in, stolen bases and home runs, had her ninth triple of the season in the bottom of the fifth of game one, a number that at press time ranks her first in the nation in total triples and second in the country in triples per game.
  • Senior centerfielder Jasmin Alvarado (Spring Valley, Calif.) posted three RBIs in game two with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first to plate Giesler followed by a two-RBI double down the left field line in the bottom of the second to again drive in Giesler as well as freshman second baseman Ashleigh Lemay (Derry, N.H.).
  • Senior pitcher Naomi Medrano (Escondido, Calif.) picked up the win in game two, allowing just two earned runs in five innings.

UP NEXT
  • NEC is back on the field next Saturday when they conclude their regular season, traveling to Lesley University for an NECC double-header.
