GAME ONE – NEC 8, CASTLETON 2
- The 'Grims struck first in the bottom of the second when junior catcher JD Normand (Auburn, N.H.) doubled in freshman outfielder Ryan Cote (Goffstown, N.H.) on a base-hit to center, giving NEC the 1-0 lead.
- The Spartans tied it up in the top of the third when senior designated hitter Reece de Castro (Rutland, Vt.) hit a sacrifice RBI to plate freshman second baseman Mikey Raby (Surprise, Ariz.) for an unearned run.
- NEC regained the lead in the bottom of the third when sophomore shortstop Brady Philibotte (Weare, N.H.) came to the plate with the bases loaded and hit an RBI groundout to score senior third baseman Devin Parsons (Salisbury, Mass.) from third as the Pilgrims went ahead 2-1.
- The 'Grims busted out for four runs in the bottom of the fifth when Philibotte doubled down the left field line the plate senior centerfielder Luca Giallongo (Mt. Shasta, Calif.). On the very next at bat, junior first baseman Brett Patnode (Weare, N.H.) came to the plate and drove the ball in nearly the identical spot for a two-RBI double. Patnode would later score on a wild pitch, giving NEC the 6-1 lead.
- The Spartans picked a run back up in the top of the sixth when graduate first baseman Evan Keegan (Malone, N.Y.) scored from third on a wild pitch.
- In the bottom of the sixth, NEC added two more runs as Parsons took advantage of a pair of misplays by Castleton to reach base, then later crossed home plate to give the Pilgrims a 7-2. Two batters later, Patnode hit an RBI single to bring in Giallongo, giving the hosts their largest lead of the game as they went into the final inning with a six-run lead.
- That would be all the 'Grims would need as NEC senior pitcher Tim Krol (East Longmeadow, Mass.) went the distance for the 'Grims, striking out nine Spartans over seven innings and allowing just one earned run in a superb outing.
- Gialllongo went four-for-four at the plate with two stolen bases for the 'Grims, the first career four-hit game for the NEC lead-off hitter.
GAME TWO – CASTLETON 8, NEC 4
- Game two saw the Pilgrims dig a hole for themselves early, as they surrendered five runs in the top of the first. De Castro led off the game with a solo home run and the Spartans kept pouring it on with a two-RBI double from senior catcher Addison Schaub (Scotia, N.Y.) and a two-RBI single from junior centerfielder Kannon Dush (Chandler, Ariz.).
- NEC started to crawl their way up in the bottom of the second when Parsons came to the plate with the bases loaded and dropped an RBI single to left-center to drive in Cote and get the 'Grims on the board. Gialllongo hit a sacrifice fly on the very next at-bat to drive in junior second baseman Johnny Cannavo (Weymouth, Mass.). Two batters later Philibotte entered the box with the bases loaded and drew a walk to plate junior catcher Aaron Robertson (Weare, N.H.). Just like that, the hosts were in business, now down just 5-3.
- In the top of the fifth, Schaub hit a two-RBI single to put the Spartans ahead 7-3.
- In the bottom of the fifth, Robertson came to the plate with the bases loaded and two outs with NEC still trailing by four runs. After battling his way to a full count, the junior catcher drew the walk for an RBI to score Philibotte and the Pilgrims would enter the sixth trailing by three.
- In the top of the seventh, Castleton sophomore catcher Trey LaVigne (Schenectady, N.Y.) posted an RBI sacrifice fly to give the Spartans an 8-4 lead. That would hold up as the final score.
- NEC senior pitcher Alex Perez (Leominster, Mass.) entered the game in relief in the top of the second and was excellent, allowing just three hits through six innings. Perez finished the day with eight strikeouts, including striking out the side in the top of the fourth.
