Softball Hosts Mitchell on Senior Day

HENNIKER, N.H. – The New England College softball team lost both ends of their double-header against visiting Mitchell College in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) action on Saturday afternoon at Old Concord Road Field in Henniker, New Hampshire, falling short in game one, 4-1, before dropping game two, 8-3.
TOP 'GRIMS
  • NEC freshman shortstop Ariana Cray (Merrimack, N.H.) kept the Pilgrims from being shutout in game one with an RBI single up the middle in the bottom of the seventh to drive in senior right fielder Jasmin Alvarado (Spring Valley, Calif.) for their sole run of the game. Alvarado drew two walks in the opener.
  • In game two, NEC sophomore pitcher Olivia Olson (North Haven, Conn.) went three solid innings, surrendering just one earned run, but a defensive miscue in the top of the second gave Mitchell a commanding lead.
  • NEC freshman first baseman Bella Kieran (Salem, N.H.) went two-for-three at the plate with an RBI triple in the bottom of the fourth inning to drive in freshman designated player Emma Lopez (Downey, Calif.). Kieran would later score on an RBI single from Alvarado.
  • NEC freshman centerfielder Grace Giesler (La Mirada, Calif.), who entered the day ranked in the top five in the nation in triples per game, opened the bottom of the fourth with a triple to left. On the very next at-bat, Lopez plated Giesler to get the 'Grims on the board.
SENIOR DAY
  • Prior to the game, the New England College softball program and athletics department recognized this year's senior class as part of senior day. Alvardo was joined by Taylor Maher (Piscataway, N.J.), Emily Gagne (Portsmouth, N.H.), Monica Andrade (Escondido, Calif.) and Naomi Medrano (Escondido, Calif.) in being honored by coaches, teammates, family members and fans for all of their accomplishments at NEC both on and off the field as part of Senior Day. Although their time with the program may be coming to an end, they will forever be a part of the 'Grims family.
UP NEXT
  • NEC is back on the field on Sunday when they travel to Mitchell for another NECC double-header.
