Baseball Rallies Past Plattsburgh State

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.- The New England College baseball team wrapped up Spring break play with a victory over Plattsburgh State University on Saturday in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.  

THE BASICS 
Score: New England College 12, Plattsburgh State 6 
Records: Pilgrims 3-6 | Cardinals 4-7 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • Down 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth, the Pilgrims took the lead on a bases-clearing triple by senior Tim Krol (East Longmeadow, Mass.) to go up 5-3. 

  • The Cardinals responded with a bases-clearing double of their own by junior infielder Alex Kornblau (Pound Ridge, N.Y.) in the seventh inning to re-take the lead. 

  • NEC did not trail for long, as they surged past Plattsburgh with six runs in the bottom of the seventh, headlined by RBI doubles by sophomore infielder Brady Philibotte (Weare, N.H.) and freshman outfielder Ryan Cote (Goffstown, N.H.). They would score one more insurance run in the eighth to secure the 12-6 win. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

  • Krol led the 'Grims with four runs batted in on the day. 

  • Three Pilgrims had three-hit days including by Philibotte, senior infielder Devin Parsons (Salisbury, N.H.) and senior infielder Tyler Gendron (Milford, N.H.). 

  • Sophomore starting pitcher Austin Hazzard (Weare, N.H.) struck out six while allowing five earned runs in seven innings while getting the win. 

UP NEXT 

  • NEC comes travels back up north and visits Eastern Connecticut State on Tuesday at 4 PM.
