MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The New England College baseball team split a doubleheader against Worcester State University on Thursday in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina in Spring break play.

Score: New England College 2, Worcester State 6

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Lancers put up three runs in the first inning and three more in the third to jump out to an early 6-0 lead.

The Pilgrims would get on the board in the fourth as sophomore infielder Bryce Worth (Southington, Conn.) singled home sophomore outfielder Kyle Dobrie (Mastic, N.Y.). The 'Grims would score one more in the sixth off a Worcester State error, making it a 6-2 Lancer lead, but were unable to put together a rally in the seventh.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS

Dobrie got on base all three times at the plate, going 2 for 2 with a walk. Senior outfielder Patrick Hagerty (Stoughton, Mass.) was the other 'Grim to have a multi-hit day while also adding a stolen base.

NEC starting pitcher Stephen Dunham (Manchester, N.H.) got hit up a little, but settled down and threw a quality start in six innings of work while taking the loss.

Worcester State starter Brett Bucklin (Lynn, Mass.) got the win as he allowed just one run off four hits in six innings.

HOW IT HAPPENED

After a bases loaded walk in the top of the first inning gave Worcester State the first run of the game, NEC tied it up in the bottom half of the inning when junior catcher JD Normand (Auburn, N.H.) singled home Hagerty. The 'Grims would momentarily take the lead following an RBI double by freshman infielder Rummy Ramos (Loiza, Puerto Rico) before the Lancers evened it up at 2 in the third.

After an error extended the top of the fourth, the Lancers would take the lead on a two-run home run by sophomore outfielder Anthony Lamarone (Providence, R.I.).

In the sixth, following back-to-back hit-by-pitches, NEC got within one run as Hagerty laced a double scoring freshman outfielder Harold Martinez (Wethersfield, Conn.). The Lancers would respond with three runs of their own in the top of the seventh inning, pushing their lead to 7-3.

Entering the bottom of the seventh, down four, the 'Grims were in search of a rally. Normand hit an RBI double to score a pinch-running senior infielder Cooper Ribaudo (Salem, N.H.) to make it a 7-4 ballgame.

Following a single by senior Tyler Gendron (Milford, N.H.), pinch-hitter junior Lachlan Rees hit a single of his own to score Normand. NEC would score again on another single off the bat of junior Johnny Cannavo (Weymouth, Mass.) scoring Gendron and making it a 7-6 game.

The Pilgrims would load the bases on a single by Martinez and would tie the game up at 7-7 as Ramos was hit by a pitch. With one out, senior infielder Devin Parsons (Salisbury, Mass.) walked-it off with an RBI single to score Cannavo and win the game.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS

NEC sophomore starting pitcher Corey O'Day (Nashua, N.H.) was wild with eight walks but limited the damage to four runs (two earned). Junior Brett Patnode (Weare, N.H.) allowed two earned runs over three innings of relief.

The 'Grims put up eight baserunners on six hits and five runs in the seventh inning while recording just one out.
