Softball Comes Up Short to Geneseo, Wisconsin Lutheran

CLERMONT, Fla. – The New England College softball team dropped two games on Sunday morning at the Spring Games in Clermont, Florida, falling short 10-2 to SUNY Geneseo before a 4-1 loss to Wisconsin Lutheran College at Hancock Park.

GAME 1 – SUNY GENESEO
  • NEC graduate pitcher Emily Farone (Sandown, N.H.) had a brilliant start against the Knights, allowing no earned runs through four innings. But Geneseo posted six runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth to take the win. The 'Grims scored two runs in the top of the third with senior Emily Gagne (Portsmouth, N.H.) tripling home freshman Ariana Cray (Merrimack, N.H.) before a sacrifice RBI from Freshman Amaya Rodriguez (Indio, Calif.) scored Gagne herself.
GAME 2 – WISCONSIN LUTHERAN
  • The 'Grims again looked good on defense early on facing the Warrior of Wisconsin Lutheran, with senior pitcher Naomi Medrano (Escondido, Calif.) not allowing a run until the fourth. An RBI groundout from freshman catcher Emma Lopez (Downey, Calif.) gave NEC the early lead, but four runs from the Warriors in the top of the fourth were too much to overcome.
UP NEXT
  • NEC is back on the field on Tuesday when they play two more games, those coming against Fredonia and Macalester College. First pitch against Fredonia is scheduled for 9 a.m.
