WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The New England College women's basketball team took their first conference loss of the season on Saturday as they fell to the University of Saint Joseph at the James A. Calhoun Gymnasium in West Hartford, Connecticut in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The first quarter was a tight-knit affair with the two teams being tied at 22 after the first ten minutes of play. The University of Saint Joseph, however, took control in the second and never looked back, outscoring the Pilgrims by 21 points over the final three quarters.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- The Blue Jays had a strong, well-rounded effort from their starting lineup, as the group combined for 76 of the team's 89 points. They were led by the senior duo of Jordan Oullette (Bristol, Conn.) and Amanda Fudge (Middletown, Conn.) as each scored a game-high 22 points. Oullette corralled 12 rebounds while Fudge added five boards and six assists. Junior guard Maya Slisz (New Britain, Conn.) contributed 18 points, seven assists, and five steals.
- For the 'Grims, senior center Kathleen Rodriguez (McFarland, Calif.) was the team's leading scorer with 15 points on seven-of-eight shooting. Junior guard Amya Moss (Norfolk, Va.) scored 11 points, senior guard Alissia Corona (Wylie, Tex.) compiled six points, four assists, and four rebounds, while sophomore guard Macy Gordon (Boscawen, N.H.) added nine points off the bench, hitting three three-pointers.
- Saint Joseph shot exactly 50 percent from the floor, while hitting 60 percent of their attempts from beyond-the-arc. Meanwhile, NEC shot a solid 47.6 percent from the field and 37.5 percent from distance.
- Both teams found success down low, as NEC scored 42 points in the paint to USJ's 40. However, the Blue Jays had a sizable advantage on the boards, outrebounding the Pilgrims 41-29.
UP NEXT
- After nearly a month of no game action for the holidays, the team returns to the court on Thursday, January 4th as they travel to Emerson College for a non-conference game scheduled for 5:00 PM.
- USJ has a quick turnaround as they visit MCLA on Monday for a 6:00 PM matchup.
