Salve Regina Drops Men’s Ice Hockey

HENNIKER, N.H. – The New England College men's ice hockey team lost 9-1 to visiting Salve Regina University on Tuesday evening at Lee Clement Arena in Henniker, New Hampshire in non-conference action.

THE BASICS
Score:                    Salve Regina 9, New England College 1
Records:               Pilgrims 2-8-1, 0-6-1 NEHC | Seahawks 10-3-1, 6-1-1 CCC

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Down 2-0 early in the opening period, the 'Grims got on the board off a power play opportunity with 11:06 left in the first when NEC junior forward David Novotny (Boca Raton, Fla.) blasted a shot through from the blue line to score his second goal of the year, assisted by junior forward Wyatt Andres (Brainerd, Minn.) and freshman defenseman Cam Perez (West Hartford, Conn.). The Pilgrims found themselves trailing by only one headed into the first intermission.
  • In the second, NEC was holding tough against an aggressive Salve offense, but a penalty with 10:38 remaining proved to be too much to bear as the Seahawks retook their two-goal advantage off a power play goal from Salve Regina senior forward Seth Benson (Moorhead, Minn.). The visitors added another goal from senior forward Johnny Mulera (Rockville, Md.) with 5:04 left in the second to take a 4-1 lead into the final period.
  • Mulera scored again on another power play just 51 seconds into the third, effectively putting the game out of reach.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • NEC sophomore goaltender Danny Miscavish (Macomb, Mich.) and freshman goaltender Xavier Lapierre (Cap-santé, Quebec) combined to tally 27 saves on the night for the Pilgrims.
  • Salve Regina freshman goaltender Selby Warren (Toronto, Ont.) finished with 18 stops for the Seahawks.
UP NEXT
  • NEC is back on the ice on Friday when they travel to Plymouth State University to face the Panthers in a 6:00 p.m. game.
  • Salve Regina plays their next game at Endicott at 1:00 p.m.
