Men’s Ice Hockey Falls in NEHC Opener

PINE VALLEY, N.Y. – The New England College men's ice hockey team was held scoreless at Elmira College on Friday evening at the Murray Athletic Center in Pine Valley, New York in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) action.  

THE BASICS 
Score: New England College 0, Elmira College 4 
Records: Pilgrims 1-1-0, 0-1-0 NEHC | Soaring Eagles 3-0-0, 1-0-0 NEHC 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • Elmira had started their shutout win late in the first period with 25 seconds remaining when senior forward Ryan Reifler (Binghamton, N.Y.) scored with assists from senior defender Daniel Dimon (Elmira, N.Y.) and senior defender Amedeo Mastrangeli (Richmond Hill, Ont.). 
  • After a scoreless second period, the third consisted of three Soaring Eagle goals with the first coming in at 15:04 remaining as senior forward Janis Vizbelis (Riga, Latvia) got the honors with senior forward Nicholas Domitrovic and senior forward Shawn Kennedy (Bainsville, Ont.) with the assists.  
  • The 3rd Elmira goal came with 13:51 remaining as senior forward Bailey Krawczyk (Elmira, N.Y.) put in a power play goal with credited assists from Domitrovic and Dimon. 
  • The last goal came in the final two minutes with 1:20 left in the game as Domitrovic ended the night with a well-deserved power play goal with an assist from Krawczyk and Mastrangeli. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

  • NEC sophomore goaltender Danny Miscavish (Macomb, Mich.) gave it his all has he came up with 19 saves. 
  • Elmira sophomore goaltender Kyle Curtin (St. George, Ont.) was the unsung hero of the game as he tallied a solid 22 saves. 
  • Despite the lopsided competition, Elmira came away with a 23-22 edge on total shots at goal. 
  • In counterpart, NEC led 29-27 in the faceoff battle. 

UP NEXT 

  • NEC is back in action on Saturday, November 4th when they travel to the country's #1 ranked team in Hobart College at the Geneva Recreation Complex with a start time of 4:00 PM. 
  • Elmira plays their next game at home against the #6 ranked team in the country, Norwich University, at the Murray Athletic Center at 4:00 PM.
