HENNIKER, N.H. – In the final New England College home athletics event before the Thanksgiving break, the NEC women's ice hockey team picked up their first win of the season with a 1-0 victory over visiting Albertus Magnus College on Tuesday evening at Lee Clement Arena in Henniker, New Hampshire in the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
THE BASICS
Score: Albertus Magnus 0, New England College 1
Records: Pilgrims 1-8-0, 0-6-0 NEHC| Falcons 0-8-1
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The opening period was hotly-contested as both teams sought to exert their will. The 'Grims struck first with just 1:16 remaining in the first as NEC freshman forward Alexis Hornsby (Atkinson, N.H.) took the outlet pass from the goalie and went coast-to-coast, beating the Falcon defense for the second goal of her career with an assist to sophomore goaltender Amy Donnelly (Taunton, Mass). It was the first assist of Donnelly's career. The Pilgrims entered the first intermission leading 1-0.
- The second period was marked by a series of penalties on both teams, with neither able to take advantage of their ensuing power play opportunities. They would enter the final period with NEC still up by one.
- The third period was likewise scoreless, with the Pilgrims holding off a ferocious last-minute flurry of shots by the Falcons, escaping with a victory.
