HENNIKER, N.H. – The New England College women's ice hockey team lost 4-2 to visiting Vermont State University Castleton on Friday evening at Lee Clement Arena in Henniker, New Hampshire in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) action.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The 'Grims got on the board first on a power play just 4:10 into the game when NEC sophomore defender Gabrielle Iwinski (Batavia, Ill.) caught the Spartan defense napping on the weak side of the net and finished for her second goal of the season, assisted by sophomore forward Kate Devlin (Walpole, Mass.) and freshman forward Samantha Babbitt (Woodstock, Vt.) as the hosts took a 1-0 lead.
- Castleton would answer with 1:30 to go in the first when sophomore forward Moa Carlsson (Huddinge, Sweden) scored her second goal of the season, assisted by graduate defender Katie Campoli (St. Petersburg, Fla.) and senior forward Julia Carpenter (Plymouth, Mich.) to tie it up at 1-1 going into the first intermission.
- From there, the Spartans took control. The visitors added on two goals in the second period from senior forward Alex Johnson (Andover, Mass.) and sophomore forward Megan Ward (Easthampton, Mass.), pulling away from NEC. Carlsson scored her second goal of the game 4:56 into the third period to effectively put the game away.
- With 2:05 to go in the game, Babbitt scored a spoiler goal for NEC, as the game ended in a 4-2 loss for the Pilgrims.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- NEC graduate goaltender Hannah Podvey (West Caldwell, N.J.) tallied 22 saves between the pipes for the 'Grims.
- After giving up a goal early, Castleton senior goaltender Victoria Bakopanos (Kirkland, Quebec) played superbly, posting 27 stops for the Spartans.

- NEC has a quick turnaround as they'll be back on the ice on Saturday when they host the Panthers of Plymouth State University in a 3:00 p.m. game.
- Castleton travels to Norwich University for their next game, that also coming on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
