HOW IT HAPPENED
- 10:05 into the first period, the Spartans would strike first with a goal from Cam Reid (Kimberley, British Columbia) on assists from Chance Heaphy (Charlton, Mass.) and Zack Whittaker (Victoria, British Columbia)
- Just over seven minutes into the second period, Castleton would score again on a goal by Andrew Stefura (Boston, Mass.), whose team leading fifth goal of the season would put the Spartans up two. His goal was assisted by Anthony Persi (Livermore, Calif.) and Josef Vyvial (Kolin, Czech Republic).
- In the third period, with time dwindling, the 'Grims would finally get on the board with a powerplay goal. Junior forward David Novotny (Boca Raton, Fla.) would find freshman forward Gunnar Sibley (Monticello, Minn.) right in front of the Spartan's net for a one-timer to cut the Castleton lead to one.
- In the closing moments of the game, with NEC still down one, the 'Grims would pull their goalkeeper for the man-up opportunity and rattle off a pair of shots by freshmen Paul Waldhauser (Klagenfurt, Austria) and Cam Perez (West Hartford, Conn.), but neither were able to connect – allowing Castleton to hold on for the narrow 2-1 victory.
