Rogriguez Earns Spartan All-Tournament Honors For Women’s Hoops

CASTLETON, Vt. – The New England College women's basketball team lost 59-51 to the University of Maine Farmington in the consolation game of the 2023 Spartan Classic Tournament hosted by Vermont State Castleton on Saturday afternoon at Glenbrook Gym in Castleton, Vermont.

THE BASICS
Score:                    New England College 51, Maine-Farmington 59
Records:               Pilgrims 1-2, 0-0 GNAC | Beavers 1-2, 0-0 NAC

TURNING POINTS
  • The 'Grims took a 47-43 lead with 7:18 to go off a layup from senior guard Juliana Hernandez (McFarland, Calif.). But a 12-0 run by the Beavers was enough to take the lead as NEC's shooters went cold as the game slipped away.
KATHLEEN RODRIGUEZ – ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM
  • NEC senior center Kathleen Rodriguez (McFarland, Calif.) was named to the Spartan Classic All-Tournament team after a couple of impressive performances for the Pilgrims. On Friday against the Monks of St. Joseph's College of Maine, Rodriguez was a point and a rebound short of a double-double. The senior center dominated against the Beavers on Saturday, posting 17 points with 12 boards, shooting better than 60 percent from the floor.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • NEC sophomore guard Makiah Scott (Washington, D.C.) continued to show remarkable improvement, scoring a team-high 18 points on Saturday with five steals and a 50 percent shooting clip.
  • UMF freshman guard Jessica Dow (Saco, Maine) led all scorers with 23 points, six rebounds and four steals.
  • NEC junior guard Krystle Medrano (Ontario, Calif.) scored eight points in just nine minutes.
  • UMF sophomore guard Grace Dwyer (Manchester, Maine) added 15 points for the Beavers.
UP NEXT
