CASTLETON, Vt. – The New England College women's basketball team took their first loss of the season in a nonconference game against St. Joseph's College of Maine, falling by a score of 48 to 73 on the opening night of the Spartan Classic hosted by VTSU-Castleton at the Glenbrook Gym in Castleton, Vermont.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- St. Joseph's senior guard Angelica Hurley (Groveland, Mass.) stole the show, leading all scorers with 25 points on 11 of 20 shooting. She added seven rebounds and four steals.
- NEC junior guard Amya Moss (Norfolk, Va.) scored nine points, sharing the team lead with senior center Kathleen Rodriguez (McFarland, Calif.). Rodriguez would bring down a game-high nine rebounds.
- Pilgrims junior guard Isyss Scott (Bakersfield, Calif.) would go a perfect two-of-two from three-point range, while sophomore guard Makiah Scott (Washington, D.C.) added seven points, three rebounds, and two assists.
- Monks' sophomore forward Grace Ramsdell (Wells, Maine) and senior guard Nina Howe (York, Maine) would join Hurley in double figures, with Ramsdell recording 17 points and five boards, while Howe would add 11 and eight.
- SJC would shoot 44.6 percent from the field, while NEC hit just 33.9 percent of their field goal attempts. Meanwhile, both teams struggled from deep in this one, with the 'Grims shooting 27.8 percent from beyond-the-arc compared to the Monks 15 percent.
