WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The New England College field hockey team picked up a 2-1 victory at the University of Saint Joseph (USJ) in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Saturday afternoon at the USJ Athletics Complex in West Hartford, Connecticut.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- NEC graduate forward Mikayla Vincent (Newburyport, Mass.) gave the 'Grims a 1-0 lead in the tenth minute of the game, that coming off a pass from junior midfielder Taylor Bailey (Boscawen, N.H.), and New England College would continue to hold that narrow edge into the fourth quarter. After USJ tied it up in the 57th minute, Vincent would bail the Pilgrims out just 21 seconds later with just 3:17 left in regulation, this time with an assist going to junior midfielder Meaghan McCamish (Warwick, R.I.).
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Vincent's brace was her biggest scoring outburst since a hat trick against Nichols on October 18th of last season. The graduate forward has seven goals on the year of 'Grims, the second highest total on the team while her six assists represent a team-high.
- USJ junior forward Maya Tomko (Sparta, N.J.) came off the bench to tie it up for the Blue Jays for her fifth goal of the season.
- NEC sophomore goalkeeper Makenzie Anderson (Antrim, N.H.) tallied four saves on the day to give the Pilgrims the victory. At press time, the second-year netminder ranked fourth in the GNAC in total saves and sixth in goals against average and save percentage.
- USJ senior goalkeeper Wendy Bowden (Old Saybrook, Conn.) put in a valiant effort, with ten saves.
UP NEXT
- NEC, ranked fifth in the conference standings at press time, is back on the field on Tuesday when they play host to GNAC power Johnson & Wales University in a 7:00 p.m. game with definite implications for potential playoff seedings.
- USJ plays their next game at home against Dean College on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
