Men’s Soccer Dominates Mariners on All Angles

HENNIKER, N.H. – The New England College men's soccer team made a huge statement against visiting Mitchell College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Saturday afternoon at the Don Melander Field in Henniker, New Hampshire.

THE BASICS
Score: Mitchell College 1, New England College 5
Records: Mariners 2-6-3, 2-5-2 GNAC | Pilgrims 5-3-4, 4-2-3 GNAC

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The big win for NEC started out with freshman midfielder Santiago Sanchez (Guatemala City, Guatemala) sneaking a tight goal in the 7' mark from senior forward Logan Cassin (Penacook, N.H.).
  • Sophomore midfielder Wyatt Flibbert (Windham, Maine) was the 'Grims top player in the heated matchup as he put in two goals, with the first coming at the 19' mark from an assist by graduate midfielder Cooper Ribaudo (Salem, N.H.), and the second goal coming at the 24' mark with an assist by junior defenseman Darren Mota (Inverness, Scotland).
  • NEC would not let up in the second half as graduate forward Zachary Acciardo (Derry, N.H.) added on to the lead as he scored a goal at the 67' mark from sophomore midfielder Anthony Aguiar (Guilford, N.H.).
  • The Mariners were led by junior defender Dylan Lucey (Lebanon, Conn.) as he converted a goal off a free kick giving Mitchell their score of the game.
  • The 'Grims were able to put a wrap to the game as junior forward Michael Moore (Rochester, N.H.), who just got into the game late, converted on his own free kick just outside of the circle to eventually give NEC a 5-1 win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • 'Grims junior goalkeeper Hayden Walker (Manchester, N.H.) fought hard all game being pushed around but kept his team in the clear as he came away with one save.
  • The Mariners' freshman goalkeeper Jesse Jenkins had his work cut out for him but was able to save nine of the total shots on goal in the game.
  • NEC outshot Mitchell by a wide margin of 28-10 in their blowout win.
  • Not too many corner kicks were presented on Saturday as te 'Grims had a slight edge 4-3 on them.
