Women’s Ice Hockey Drops Home Opener to the Raiders

HENNIKER, N.H. – The New England College women's ice hockey team stumbled in their home opener against visiting Rivier University on Saturday at Lee Clement Arena in Henniker, New Hampshire.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In the first period of action the Pilgrims experienced difficulties finding their footing in the early going letting in two goals scored by sophomore forward Jessica Driscoll (Tewksbury, Mass.) and freshman forward Rebecca McKelvey (Barre, Vt.).
  • At 6:13 of the second period, NEC retaliated with a goal of their own to drop the deficit down to a score game coming from freshman forward Sofia Gualtieri (Montreal, Quebec) assisted by graduate forward Cassie Kelly (Alexandria, Minn.) and sophomore defender Jordan Pond (Gardner, Mass.).
  • Rivier was able to respond back to the Pilgrims goal scoring one of their own at 11:36 by junior forward Briana Paxson (Eagle River, Alaska) from senior defender Heather McHatton and junior forward Brianna Parent (Saint Albans, Vt.).
  • The defense of the Raiders stood tall not letting anymore NEC goals for the remainder of the of the contest that earned them another win over the Pilgrims on the afternoon.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • NEC Gualtieri scored a goal, Kelly and Pond were both credited with an assist.
  • RU Driscoll, Paxson and McKelvey gathered a goal during the contest. Parent had two assists, sophomore defender Jillian Hallee (Berlin, N.H.) along with McHatton earned an assist each respectively.
  • NEC graduate goaltender Sean D'urso (Andover, Mass.) finished her afternoon with 24 saves in net.
  • RU junior goaltender Rachel Symmes (Chugiak, Alaska) recorded 28 saves.
  • NEC put together 29 shots on the day as RU compiled 27.

  • NEC is back on the ice on Friday, November 3 when they Elmira College at 6:00 PM from Lee Clement Arena.
  • RU plays their next game at Conway Arena against Salem State at 7:00 PM.
