Field Hockey Surges Past AMCATS on Senior Night

HENNIKER, N.H. – After honoring their graduating senior class, the New England College field hockey team triumphed 5-0 over visiting Anna Maria College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Wednesday evening at Don Melander Field in Henniker, New Hampshire.

THE BASICS
Score:                    Anna Maria 0, New England College 5
Records:               Pilgrims 10-7, 8-3 GNAC | AMCATS 3-11, 3-7 GNAC

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first goal came courtesy of the 'Grims departing seniors, mere minutes after their ceremony. Graduate midfielder Mikayla Vincent (Newburyport, Mass.) beat two defenders on her way to the net, only to have her shot blocked by the AMCAT keeper. Senior forward Emma LaPierre (Franklin, N.H.) was there for the putback, however, finishing for her fourth career goal as NEC took a 1-0 lead after one quarter. Then with 7:12 left in the first half, Vincent would recover her own putback and put it through for her ninth goal of the season, giving the hosts the 2-0 lead.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • NEC graduate forward Drea Chin (Laconia, N.H.), the 'Grims' leading scorer this year, picked up a pair of insurance goals late in the third quarter, giving her 14 on the season.
  • NEC junior defender Kate Bourgeois (Troy, Maine) scored her first goal of the season and the third of her career with 1:40 left in the game to put a cherry on top of the win.
  • NEC sophomore goalkeeper Makenzie Anderson (Antrim, N.H.) picked up the win in net for the Pilgrims, tallying one save on the night.
  • Anna Maria graduate goalkeeper Hannah Tobey (Falmouth, Mass.) and freshman goalkeeper Carly Dedrick (Manchester, N.H.) combined for 16 stops.
  • NEC outshout Anna Maria, 32-5.
SENIOR NIGHT
  • Prior to the game, the New England College field hockey program and the NEC athletics department recognized this year's senior class as part of senior day. Vincent and LaPierre were honored by coaches, teammates, family members and fans for all of their accomplishments at NEC both on and off the field. Although their time with the program may be coming to an end, they will forever be a part of the 'Grims family.

UP NEXT
  • NEC, closing in on a top-four GNAC playoff seed, is back on the field on Saturday when they host Elms College in a 12:00 p.m. game.
  • Anna Maria plays their next game at home on Saturday against Simmons University at 2:00 p.m.
