Field Hockey Falters at Thomas, 3-2

BOXSCORE

Waterville, Maine – In a rematch of last year's New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) championship semifinal, the visiting New England College field hockey team came up just short at Thomas College on Tuesday evening in Waterville, Maine in conference action.

THE BASICS
Score:                    New England College 2, Thomas 3
Records:               Pilgrims 7-5, 1-2 NECC | Terriers 5-7, 2-1 NECC

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • NEC senior midfielder Mikayla Vincent (Newburyport, Mass.) wasted no time putting the Pilgrims out in front, as she scored her team-leading ninth goal of the season just 15 seconds into the game as the Pilgrims went ahead 1-0.
  • With only 49 seconds remaining until the intermission, NEC graduate defender Giuliana Kevlin (Laconia, N.H.) found senior defender Alivia Proulx (Londonderry, N.H.) who connected with the back of the net for her first goal of the season as the teams went into halftime with the Pilgrims leading 2-0.
  • That remained the score late in the third quarter, when the Terriers finally broke through. Thomas had goals from Eva-Marie Stevens, Kallee Turner and the eventual game-winner from Kayci Faulkingham to take it.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • NEC graduate goalkeeper Jackie Mountford (New London, N.H.) was dominant for the first three quarters of the game, finishing her night with 14 saves, a new career-high.
  • Thomas keeper Brennan Pinto picked up the win for the Terriers.
  • The Terriers outshot the 'Grims. 25-8.
  • NEC is now 7-10 all-time against Thomas. The teams most recently met in the semifinals of last year's NECC playoffs, with the top-seeded Terriers coming out ahead, 5-2, in that contest.

UP NEXT
