Softball Opens Season With Split against St. Joseph's Brooklyn and Cabrini

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CLERMONT, FL. After defeating St. Joseph's Brooklyn 8-2 in the opening game, the New England College softball team fell to Cabrini 10-0 in game two of their season-opening doubleheaders at the PFX Spring Games.

How it Happened
Game One New England College 8, St. Joseph's Brooklyn 2
New England College got on the board in the bottom of the second, as Taylor Barbour launched a two-run homerun over the centerfield fence. The Pilgrims exploded for five runs in the fourth, as Daelyn Ross crossed the plated on a wild pitch, Monica Andrade scored on an error, Rachel Senechal plated Barbour with a single, and Senechal and Destiny Cardona scored on an error by the centerfielder.
St. Joe's got on the board in the top of the fifth, as Ashleigh Hartwig and Tayler Faraguna crossed the plate with a double to the gap. In the bottom half of the frame, Destiny Helmedach finished off the scoring with a homer to center.

In the circle,Taylor Barbourwent the distance, as she struck out 11 while allowing just two runs.

Cabrini was able to score early and often, as they score three in the first, two in the second and five in the third. Helmedach, Alexis Hoelzel and Cameron LeClaire recorded hits for the Pilgrims in game two.

  • NEC is now 2-1 against St. Joe's (Brooklyn) and this was the first matchup against Cabrini.
  • With 11 strikeouts in game one, Taylor Barbour recorded her ninth 10+ strikeout performance in her career.
